New Classification schemes from Carnegie Foundation

  COLLEGES CAN NOW PREVIEW the five new schemes for classifying 
   institutions of higher education that the Carnegie Foundation 
   for the Advancement of Teaching plans to put into effect next 
   month. The new classifications will expand on the 
   single-scheme system used by the foundation since 1971.

The foundation said that the classifications, which may be viewed only by
searching on colleges' names, are strictly "not for publication" and are
"subject to change." The foundation is making the new system available for
review before its official release, on November 17, in order "to acquaint
users with the forthcoming classification frameworks and to help identify
potential classification errors,"

Since many publishers rely on the Carnegie Classifications for licensing,
I thought this was appropriate for everyone to know about.
