East Carolina University
Academic Library Services, East Carolina University is expanding
its services to meet the needs of a rapidly growing campus. These
new positions offer an opportunity for innovative
service-oriented librarians to develop and manage areas of the
library's collections (Humanities, Sciences, or Behavioral &
Social Sciences) and provide outreach services to faculty. The
positions will report to the Collections Coordinator.
Responsibilities for assigned subject areas:
* Select print monographs and e-books
* Review and adjust approval plan profiles
* Recommend journal subscriptions and cancellations, online
journal backfiles, microform materials, databases, datasets, and
other resources
* Provide outreach to faculty
* Promote the university's scholarly communication initiatives
* Write and/or update collection development guidelines
* Assess the collection
* Make preservation, gift, and de-selection decisions
* Recommend materials suitable for digitization
* Work collaboratively with colleagues throughout Academic
Library Services and ECU's Laupus (Health Sciences) Library to
build strong collections
The Collections Librarians will also serve limited hours at one
of the library's reference desks and/or participate in online
reference services.
Required Qualifications:
* ALA-accredited master's degree or international equivalent in
library or information science
* Demonstrated knowledge of one or more disciplines within the
Humanities, Sciences, or Behavioral & Social Sciences
* Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills
* Excellent organizational, analytical and project management
skills
* Evidence of ability to work independently and collegially
* Commitment to quality service
* Ability to achieve tenure through effective job performance,
contributions to the profession through research and scholarly
publications, and involvement in regional or national library
organizations
Preferred Qualifications:
* Additional graduate degree in a discipline within the
Humanities, Sciences, or Behavioral & Social Sciences
* Knowledge of trends in scholarly communication
* Experience in library collection management, especially in an
academic library
* Experience with vendor selection tools
* Knowledge of trends and practices related to resource
acquisition
* Experience providing direct service to library patrons
* Experience using collection assessment tools
* Flexibility and initiative in enhancing service in a changing
environment
Academic Library Services: Academic Library Services (ALS)
supports the campus community's mission of teaching, research,
and service. ALS is a member of the Association of Southeastern
Research Libraries (ASERL), has an operating budget of $8 million
and a materials budget of $5.5 million, and employs a staff of
109, including 35 faculty positions. It is a selective federal

Rank, Salary and Benefits: This is a twelve-month tenure track
faculty position with a comprehensive fringe benefits package.
Professional achievement, service, and research/creative activity
are required for tenure and promotion. Salary will be
commensurate with candidate's experience and professional
achievement (minimum salary of $45,000).

Finalists will be asked to make a brief presentation during the
on-campus interview.
