ASM Journals Announce Online Price Freeze for 2010 Subscription Year
ASM Journals (www.journals.asm.org) Announce Online Price Freeze
for 2010 Subscription Year
Online subscription prices for the 9 research journals and 2
review journals published by the American Society for
Microbiology will not increase in the 2010 subscription year. The
pricing freeze applies to all ASM online journals and bundles,
including the All-ll, Basic, and Clinical packages. The base
price increase for 2010 print subscriptions is a nominal 4%.
ASM understands the unique budget constraints that will frame
librarians' decisions this year. Our 2010 pricing is a direct
response to the academic library community's request to
publishers for restraint in today's economic environment. The ASM
Journals Program is committed to ensuring that all subscribers
will continue to have access in 2010 to the important work
published in ASM journals, which covers the full spectrum of
basic and clinical microbiology research.
Despite the pricing freeze, ASM continues to improve online
journal features to better serve researchers and librarians. In
July 2009, ASM will launch redesigned online journal home pages
that are clearer and easier to navigate. Figure and table
searching functionality on the journals HighWire site, formerly
available only to ASM member subscribers, now is available to all
users. Beginning in late 2009, ASM journals will be indexed by
Proquest's Illustrata and Serial Solutions' Summon to enhance
library patrons' search capabilities. Subscribers will continue
to have access to the complete archive of ASM journals dating
back to 1916, as well as primary-research manuscripts posted
immediately after acceptance, up to 12 weeks before final
publication; COUNTER compliant usage statistics; straightforward
and fair licensing terms that allow unlimited concurrent usage;
long-term archiving via LOCKSS; and email based alerting systems.
