Talk to Her (Pedro Almodóvar, 2002, 35mm, 112 mins)
Almodóvar won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for his intricate, empathetic story of love and obsession. When tragedies strike, two women—a bullfighter and a ballerina—are left in the care of two men—a journalist and a nurse—who develop an odd bond. Caetano Veloso’s singing and Pina Bausch’s choreography add “moments of almost unbearable beauty” (Kimberley Jones) and “pure cinematic intoxication” (Liam Lacey) in this transcendent modern melodrama. In Spanish with English subtitles. 35mm print from the Yale Film Archive.
The “Treasures from the Yale Film Archive” series is presented with support from Paul L. Joskow ‘70 M.Phil., ‘72 Ph.D.
