Curriculum Development and Review 

The Yale University Archives seeks to collect documentation concerning curriculum development and review at Yale. Specific topics of interest include: 
  • Development, evaluation, and modification of courses of study 
  • Oversight of courses of study 
  • Courses offered 
  • Courses required 
  • Standards for the evaluation of students in programs or classes 
  • Accreditation of the curriculum 
  • New policy, procedure, initiative development in any of the above areas 

Archival Records 

Examples of records of interest to the Archives, regardless of format: 
  • Accreditation records and reports 
  • Correspondence regarding curriculum planning and review 
  • Final reports and working papers concerning the authorization, development, and review of new and existing programs and courses 
  • Meeting minutes and supporting materials from departments, committees, and advisory bodies concerning curriculum planning, development, and review 
  • Policies and procedures for the evaluation of students’ progress in programs or performance in classes 
  • Proposals for new courses or programs 
  • Publications and websites (see Depositing Official Yale Publications) concerning courses and course requirements 
  • Records of the Corporation’s Committee on Educational Policy 
  • Reviews, studies, and evaluations of the courses of study 

Office of record 

The Office of the Provost, certain deans, the College Seminar Office, and academic departments and program chairs maintain the record copy of documentation about curriculum development and review. 
 
 

Individual Courses 

The Yale University Archives seeks to collect documentation concerning teaching and learning in individual academic courses at Yale at all academic levels. Specific topics of interest include: 
  • Course content 
  • Teaching styles and methods 
  • Expectations and standards for student evaluation 
  • New policy, procedure, initiative development in any of the above areas 

Archival Records 

Examples of records of interest to the Archives, regardless of format: 
  • Course syllabi and reading lists 
  • Lecture notes and/or transcripts of lectures by selected faculty 
  • Publications and websites (see Depositing Official Yale Publications) 
  • Summaries of student evaluations 
  • Selected video and audio recordings, and photographs of classroom lectures, work, and presentations 

Office of record 

Deans, instructors, and the Classes server (classes.yale.edu) maintain the record copy of documentation concerning individual courses. 

Student Work 

The Yale University Archives seeks to collect selected final products of students’ academic work at Yale. Specific works of interest include: 
  • Dissertations and master’s theses submitted to graduate and professional schools 
  • Prize-winning senior essays, projects, or exhibits 
  • Senior essays or master’s theses concerning the history of Yale or New Haven

Academic departments and instructors maintain the record copy of documentation concerning students’ academic work.
