Alumni Borrowing

As a Yale graduate, you (and your spouse) may access Yale Library collections with a range of free and paid options. To set up your account, call (203) 432-1775, or visit the Sterling Library service desk during business hours (hours are subject to change so please check the calendar before planning your visit):
  • Monday - Thursday: 8:30 am - 6 pm
  • Friday: 8:30 am - 5 pm
  • Saturday: 10 am - 5 pm
  • Sunday: 12 pm - 6 pm
You must sign up for a new account even if you have had one in the past. To begin the process, please complete the privileges pre-registration form.
 
To set up your account, you will need to show a current government-issued ID. The following documents are accepted:
  • Driver’s license (from U.S. or Canada)
  • U.S. or foreign passport
  • Permanent Registration Card (form I-551) from USCIS
Alumni spouses will be asked to identify their spouse’s name when registering so that staff may confirm status. 
 
Payment methods: We accept credit cards (American Express, Visa, or Mastercard) and checks. An e-pay option is available. We do not accept cash. 
 

Access Pass

  • Cost: Free
  • Access to the Sterling Memorial Library stacks
  • No borrowing privileges
  • Staff retrieval of materials from Sterling Memorial Library and the Library Shelving Facility (LSF) (20 items per day)* 
  • Entry to Sterling Library and Bass Library after 6 pm, when an ID is required to enter the building
  • Onsite access to electronic resources

Alumni Handsome Scan

  • Cost: $25/3 months or $90/year
  • Request scans of book chapters and journal articles for delivery to personal email
  • Check terms of service

 Alumni Bulldog

  • Cost: $60/3 months or $200/year
  • Book loan period: 2 months or date of account expiration, whichever is the lesser amount
  • Number of books/loans: 25
  • Number of Yale Film Archive items: 0
  • Services: Interlibrary Loan, BorrowDirect, Scan and Deliver and Mail to Address
  • Entry to Sterling Library and Bass Library after 6 pm, when an ID is required to enter the building
  • Onsite access to electronic resources

Alumni Bulldog+

  • Cost: $75/3 months or $250/year
  • Book loan period: 2 months or date of account expiration, whichever is the lesser amount
  • Number of books/loans: 60
  • Number of Yale Film Archive items: 0
  • Services: Interlibrary Loan, BorrowDirect, Scan and Deliver and Mail to Address
  • Entry to Sterling Library and Bass Library after 6 pm, when an ID is required to enter the building
  • Onsite access to electronic resources

Alumni Access to E-resources (Databases, Online Journals, etc.)

Register through the Alumni Association for free access to JSTOR and HeinOnline.

Access to Yale Library e-resources is contractually limited to current faculty, staff, and students of Yale and its immediately affiliated institutions. On-campus visitors from other Eduroam-affiliated institutions can select this network by logging in with their home university ID. 

Alumni and other visitors may access e-resources on site using a limited number of public computers in the Sterling nave. Call (203) 432-1775, or visit the Sterling service desk for more information.
