BorrowDirect service will move to a new platform on Dec. 13
Dec. 8, 2022
On Dec. 13, the technology platform that supports the popular BorrowDirect service will change. The service itself—quick turnaround borrowing from 12 partner libraries—will remain the same, but the new platform will support improvements to the user experience over time.
BorrowDirect users will see some immediate changes to the search interface, with more enhancements to follow. The new platform’s search function is expected to return results more quickly.
The new platform will also facilitate a more seamless process for borrowing from non-Yale libraries. If a requested item is not available through BorrowDirect, library staff will immediately seek the item through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). The borrower will no longer need to place a separate ILL request. Library users will now be able to view their BorrowDirect requests in the same account as their ILL, Mail to Address, and Scan and Deliver requests.
As always, Yale faculty, students, and staff should:
- Continue coming to Yale Library to start your searches, request materials, and use BorrowDirect.
- Search for items at Yale Library before requesting them via BorrowDirect or ILL.
- Continue to refer to their Orbis account for due dates of borrowed items
Library staff across the BorrowDirect universities are collaborating closely for a smooth transition. However, implementing a technology change across 13 different institutions at the same time is challenging and could result in some temporary service disruptions. If you have questions or concerns, or encounter any problems during the transition, please email Ask Yale Library. View the BorrowDirect information page.
