Three librarians at the Harvey Cushing/John Hay Whitney Medical Library—Sofia Fertuzinhos, Rolando Garcia-Milian, and Kaitlin Throgmorton—were awarded the prestigious Linda K. Lorimer Award for Distinguished Service.

Each year, the award celebrates the achievements of select staff members, nominated by their peers, who embody Yale’s spirit of leadership, innovation, collaboration, and excellence.

Throgmorton is data librarian for Health Sciences; Garcia-Milian and Fertuzinhos are research and education librarians for Bioinformatics. Lucila Ohno-Machado, chair of the Biomedical Informatics and Data Science department, nominated these librarians for providing the training, consultation, collaboration, and tools that bridge crucial gaps in bioinformatics and data support for researchers at Yale.

Yale University President Maurie McInnis presented the awards to these recipients and 28 others in a Nov. 12 ceremony at the President’s House on Hillhouse Avenue. Colleagues across campus, representing 11 key Yale initiatives, were honored for advancing the university’s core mission.

Established in 2014, the award was renamed in 2015 to honor Linda Koch Lorimer, former vice president of global and strategic initiatives, on the occasion of her retirement.
