Now on view: Library exhibitions designed for the curious mind

Visitors are invited to explore these many Yale Library exhibitions now on view:
- Cushing Center Medical History Exhibition at the Cushing/Whitney Medical Library: Medical historical exhibition featuring the personal papers and collections of Harvey Cushing, father of modern neurosurgery. Permanent display.
- Empire and Resistance: Transisthmian Views of Central America in the Hanke Gallery, Sterling Memorial Library: PhD candidate Nancy Escalante traces the economic, political, and cultural connections between U.S. empire and Central American communities, from the nineteeth century into the twenty-first. Through Aug. 13.
- Killer or Cure?: Poison through the Centuries at Cushing/Whitney Medical Library: This exhibit traces the uses of poison and antidotes throughout history–from classical antiquity to 21st-century textbooks. Through Aug. 13.
- Knight Errant of the Distressed: Horace Walpole and Philanthropy in Eighteenth-Century London at Lewis Walpole Library: With the aim of stimulating philanthropy today, this collection of images, manuscripts, artefacts, extracts from letters and publications highlight the secret giving and good works of Walpole in his time. Through June 30.
- Lyric Thinking: Poetry in the World at Bass Library: Explores how thinking through and with lyric poems takes place across diverse languages, communities, and spaces throughout the historical record. Through May 31.
- Maker of a Kindly Permanence: Oral History of American Music at Yale in the display cases in front of the Gilmore Music Library: A display of objects and recordings from the collection, from past to present-day. Through May 31.
- Matters of Color/Color Matters, a student-curated exhibit in the Sterling Memorial Library Exhibition Corridor: Inspired by a course offered in Yale’s Department of the History of Art in fall 2021, the exhibit explores color in various disciplines and applications through objects from the collections of Yale Library, Yale Center for British Art, and Yale University Art Gallery. Through April 23.
- Teaching with Slides: The History of the Visual Resources Collection at Yale at Haas Family Arts Library: This exhibit celebrates the collection formed in 1930s, which now holds 370,000 slies (lantern and 35mm) and 187,000 mounted photographs related to global art, architecture, and material culture. Through March 3, 2024.
- Twelve Portraits: Studies of Women at Yale, by Tanya Marcuse in the Memorabilia Room, Sterling Memorial Library: This selection of portraits continues the university-wide celebration “50WomenAtYale150,” to showcase women’s contributions to Yale and to the world. Through Dec. 31.
- Revisiting the Past—Imagining the Future at Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library: Curators have paired old with new for a display of books, manuscripts, and objects—spanning time and place—to spark the imagination. Through July 9.
