“As you embark on your work here at Yale, I invite you to engage deeply with our library collections and library staff,” said Lauren DiMonte, associate librarian for Research and Learning, in her welcoming address to the new faculty gathered in Sterling Memorial Library’s lecture hall. Fifteen new faculty members attended the two-hour session of presentations by library staff to learn about the many teaching resources and opportunities available to them and their students. “We’re here to support you, to collaborate with you, and to help you make the most of the rich academic environment that defines our university.”

Jessica Bower Relevo, associate director of Resource Sharing and Reserves, explained the processes for requesting course reserves and purchases. Instruction Librarians Jennifer Snow and Kelly Blanchat and Assistant Program Director of Education Anna Franz explained the several ways to collaborate with librarians, the instructional workshops available to students, and the opportunities for faculty members to teach with special collections. Attendees also learned about a variety of research support services from Rich Richie, director of Area Studies and Humanities; Sandra Enimil, director of Scholarly Communication and Collection Strategy; and Rebecca Dikow, director of Computational Methods and Data.

To close the afternoon, Richie led tours of Sterling Memorial Library and Bass Library.

“As new faculty,” DiMonte told the group, “you’re stepping into roles that will shape the intellectual lives of our students and the broader community, and advance research in your fields. I hope the library will be a key partner for you in these endeavors.”
