Yale Library staff have developed two new research guides to help researchers navigate the complex and fast-changing landscape of artificial intelligence (AI).

The AI Guidance for Library Resources—by Sandra Aya Enimil, director of Scholarly Communication and Collection Strategy—offers guidance to AI users on assessing the copyright restrictions on intellectual property and the use of licensed e-resources in AI-generated content.

The Generative AI for Research Guide—by Gavi Levy Haskell, research technology lead in Computational Methods and Data—offers guidance to researchers working with AI-generated images, video, and text. This guide covers responsible prompt and data entry, the importance of accurate citation in published materials, and methods for evaluating the expanding universe of AI models and tools.

Among the library’s other recent AI initiatives are two collaborations with the Yale Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning: the recent joint appointment of Ben Glaser, the inaugural director of AI initiatives in the humanities, and the creation of an AI Literacy Framework to help instructors guide students in the effective, ethical application of AI in coursework.

See Using AI in Research to learn more about the library’s AI-related tools and services or to schedule a research consultation with a library specialist.
