CANCELLED Faith in a Difficult Time: Christian Wiman and Danielle Chapman read from their new books

Christian Wiman and Danielle Chapman are poets, essayists, parents, and partners. This event will feature their new non-fiction works, Zero at the Bone: Fifty Entries Against Despair and Holler: A Poet Among Patriots, as well as a discussion about faith, writing, race, love, and grief. The event will be in Marquand Chapel and will be followed by a reception in the Upper Common Room.

Christian Wiman is the author, editor, or translator of fourteen books, including My Bright Abyss: Meditation of a Modern Believer and Hammer Is the Prayer: Selected Poems. His new book, Zero at the Bone: Fifty Entries Against Despair, was published in December by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. His work appears regularly in The New Yorker, Harper’s, The Times Literary Supplement, and elsewhere. From 2003-2013 he edited Poetry magazine, which won several national magazine awards during his tenure. Since 2013 he has taught religion and literature at Yale Divinity School and the Yale Institute of Sacred Music as the Clement-Muehl Professor of Communication Arts.

Danielle Chapman is a poet, essayist, and lecturer in English at Yale University. Her poems have appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic Monthly, The Nation, Poetry International and elsewhere. Delinquent Palaces, released by Northwestern University Press in April 2015, is her debut collection of poems. For several years, Danielle served as the director of literary arts and events for the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, where she created programs to serve Chicago’s writers, publishers, and literary community. She was also a consulting editor for The Poetry Foundation. Danielle lives in Hamden, CT, with her husband, Christian Wiman, and their twin daughters.
