Sterling Memorial Library

Inside Yale’s largest library
Opened in 1931, Sterling is Yale’s largest library and a masterpiece of Gothic Revival architecture. At the heart of central campus, Sterling houses a 14-story book tower, reading rooms, library administration, the Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning, several smaller libraries and special collections, the library’s Department of Area Studies and Humanities, and more. Sterling is connected by a tunnel to Bass Library, the starting point for undergraduate research support and library instruction.
