The Zone of Interest (Jonathan Glazer, 2023, DCP, 105 mins)
An Auschwitz commandant and his wife—portrayed by Christian Friedel and Sandra Hüller—drift through banal domesticity in their bucolic compound bordering the camp. Loosely based on the novel by Martin Amis, Glazer’s latest has been called “a deeply chilling and precisely engineered nightmare” (Barry Hertz) and “a masterpiece whose every gorgeously framed shot aims to stun you into silence” (Manuel Betancourt).
