Judy Davis and Sam Neill star in Armstrong’s first feature, a portrait of an aspiring novelist in 19th-century New South Wales. The Australian New Wave classic received six AFI Awards and an Oscar nomination. “It’s hard to imagine a film filled with more quiet integrity, intelligent passion, realistic drama, and genuine entertainment” (Michael Blowen). 35mm print from the Yale Film Archive.
